Ruth Unger, born in Berlin in 1990, studied sculpture with Prof. Carl Emanuel Wolff at the Dresden University of Fine Arts from 2011 and graduated as a master student in 2021. During her years of study, she developed a lively visual language that oscillates between constricting conformity and energetic outburst.

In her artistic work, Ruth Unger deals primarily with everyday surfaces and visual habits, which she imitates, recomposes and alienates. Through the constant canon of transfiguration and assertion, idiosyncratic objects emerge that provoke questions about identity and dissolve historicity into retelling. Unger uses the materials of her immediate environment and works predominantly in series. The representation of this search for form and the argument of diversity is essential in the creation of these individual objects as an autonomous expression of a repetitive process. The artist uses this starting point to also present socio-political and religious themes as an interface to a collective understanding of the world and to expose them as a fragile construct. Unger's work moves between tradition, trash and treasure as a mirror of a society in motion.
