Nele Hendrikje Sandner

While her artistic work was more representational during her studies, the artist tends more and more towards the simplification of forms. In her paintings and objects, which are mostly made of paper, she intensively explores the human body, its inner sensations and its outer texture. She focuses particularly on the human skin, both as an organ and structure and in its social integration.
In doing so, she experiments with the chosen material in a playful way. She uses collage techniques, cut-outs or creates her own papers to design works that unfold, fold and grow into independent pictorial structures.

Museum of pink | shower

Artist Statement:
We use pink consciouslywithout letting ourselves be influenced by traditional stereotypes. We are interested in exploring the manifold possibilities and nuances of colour and using them creatively without being restricted by prevailing conventions.
So our "museum" not only conveys a political message. Pink has accompanied us since childhood and is often the first identifying sign of the "female" gender. We want to show that the horizon of its meaning is much wider. It stands for a whole range of emotions, from the gentlest to the strongest. It embodies personal memories and wonderful fantasies. Our works show that pink is a language with many facets. It is a tool we consciously use to express, reflect and move. It reminds us of the complexity of identity, the fullness of emotion and the beauty of contradiction. Pink is used here as a powerful means of self-expression, subversion and reflection.
