Matthias Geisler comes from a strict religious German family. His father is a pastor and his mother a nurse. Having moved frequently as a child, he is concerned with home, space and digital culture. Growing up in the 2000s, he was influenced by a Christian home, science fiction, computer games of the 90s and life in the village.
Often observing the world as a quiet child, his visual worlds move between the metaphysical and the trivial. Gestural forms quote characters & pictorial symbols from pop culture, religion and the internet, creating a snapshot of life in the 21st century. Recurring motifs, between organic structures, angular crosses, stars, as well as comic figures melt into image compositions of architectural beauty.
Matthias Geisler lives and works in Leipzig as a graphic and multimedia artist. He attended the Camberwell College of Arts in London in the illustration class (2009-2010) and completed his diploma in graphic design (2015) at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig (HGB Leipzig).
He was nominated for the HGB Leipzig Study Award (2012) for his wall piece Innenwelt.
